Returning home to South Africa as a citizen, or relocating for employment purposes, requires both attention to detail and to the specific timing of certain veterinary requirements.

• Pet entry into the Republic of South Africa is controlled by both an import permit along with a booked and manifest air cargo shipment.
• Microchip identification, as well proof of Rabies immunization not more than one year prior to entry, and at minimum 30 days prior to entry into the Republic are also required.
• Dogs require five (5) distinct blood tests within 30 days of entry.
• An international health certificate, a four page document issued by an accredited veterinarian within ten days of entry, also requires export endorsement by the USDA.
